INFR'ACTION 9

Entering its ninth year of existence Infr'Action will take place from September 11 to 15 in the public space of Sète and at the city’s own beautiful Musée Paul Valéry. We are quite pleased with what we have achieved this far. First of all of course, to have been able to sustain Infr’Action for almost a decade. To have promoted an art media in France which has been marginalized and to have showcased an international platform. But also of having presented a broad and diversified selection of some of the most challenging artists from all over the world without compromising with the artistic quality. With a total of over 280 artists from more than 45 countries, we can say that we have brought the world to Sète and Sète to the world.

Through our network of partner festivals we have also been able to give French artists the possibility to be presented abroad from Canada to Sweden, from Italy to China, just to mention some of the countries where we have developed partnerships for cooperation and exchange. Today Infr’Action is an essential event on the international performance art scene. We have, however, consciously chosen to let Infr’Action develop on a human scale, with artistic quality as its guideline rather than through notions of industrial marketing or quantity. The spectacular, yes the spectacle as such, has never been of interest for us. Instead we have focused on the essential, the meeting between avant-garde art and artist and the citizens, the people of Sète and elsewhere. In an experimental fusion of art and life, following our original notion of avant-garde & populaire.

The program of 2013 presents artists from around the world, from Ireland, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Iraq, the Netherlands, China, South Korea, Taiwan, as well as Sweden and of course France. The curatorial theme of this ninth edition is Body & Mind in Time, as to accentuate these two first qualities as being one and inseparable to our existence.

All of the artists in this edition are new to Infr’Action and to Sète, except one, the legendary Nigel Rolfe, professor at the Royal College of Art in London, who last year created a breath taking work at the quai Général Durand projecting Jean Baudrillard quotes on one of the trawlers while realizing an unforgettable action of art. It was so amazing we just had to invite him again.

He is however, not the only one who should be mentioned. In fact all artists who have accepted our invitation are on the Infr’Action level for you to discover and appreciate.

On your right you can explore the program and its artists for this ninth edition. There will be thunder, there will be rain. But in Sète, this week in september, there will be sunshine. In every way.
